Ken and Brenda welcome you to our farm, Sassy Springs, located in Cullen, Va. Our farm has grown to 110 acres, of beautifully lightly rolling hills. Cullen is located between south and between Farmville and Keysville, Virginia. Together we work the farm, enjoying each day that we have been given. Our children have grown thru the ups and downs ofthe everyday life on the farm.
We thank God that there are many, many more ups than downs.
We relocated from Gloucester, Va. to Cullen November of 2004, and have greatly expanded the farm. We now have a herd of Angus and Hereford Beef. Our beef is grass raised, no hormones or antibiotics are given, nor are there any chemicals used on our pastures. We have our beef processed at a USDA processing plant which is family owned. Please see our beef page for information on our meat. We are a Virginia Certified Quality farm and participate in the state program, VIRGINIA FINEST QUALITY PRODUCTS. We also raise Landrace Pigs. We sell the pork at our farmstand, certain grocery stores, and deliver pork to customers who place orders.
Sassy Springs has a bath line of products that is noted as VICTORIAN WHISPERS. Victorian Whispers bath products are carried in many of the local shops in the area, as well as shipped across the nation. These include goats milks soaps, goats milk lotions, Summers Bounty, Bushman's Choice, Skeeter Beater, herbal shampoos, linen sprays, Herbal Therapy Paks, Lavender Paws, Hot Spot treatment (for dogs), and many more items. These products are also available at our farm shop.
We have Tennessee Walking horses, Suffolk Punch Draft horses, a Standardbred buggy horse and "Moses" our farm donkey.
We are currently in to calving & kidding season and have several family milkers, meat goats and young kids for sale. All goats are hand raised, on pasteurized goat milk, and disbudded. These animals are very loving and gentle, each with their own unique personality.
We have demonstrations in milking, soap making and homestead cheese making. We will be having scheduled farm tours with additional demonstrations and classes in the year 2008-2009.
Because of Virginia still working on regulations of cheese sold to the public, I encourage folks to make and enjoy farmstead cheeses that you make for your own family, not to sell cheese to the public. There is nothing better than fresh goat milk and cheese.
Local honey is also produced on the farm. Bee pollen is a wonderful side benefit the the honey bees give us.
We would be delighted if you and your family came to join us. Please drop a email to me and I will gladly send you directions to the farm.
Prior to our relocation Gloucester, Va., celebrated its 350th celebration of the county in 2001.
A "Down on the Farm Tour, involving several farms, forest and fisheries was held in 2001. We were excited of being asked to participate in this tour as it was the second county farm tour that Sassy Springs has been involved in. We had a wonderful time with families that came to spend the afternoon with us in visiting with the animals, as well as cheese, soap and milking demonstrations.
Thank you for visiting our site,
Ken & Brenda Smith
